Like if you get confused between England, United Kingdom (UK), Great Britain or Britain, and Scotland/Ireland/Wales, then here is the explanation. The United Kingdom (GB) and Britain are used interchangeably and denote essentially 4 countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The Queen is their head of government and that is why the big brouhaha about the royal family there. (Republic of) Ireland is a separate country.
